HOLLYWOOD—Plenty of ordinary people are fleeing Facebook because of the many concerns about eroding privacy on the beloved social networking site that is known by many simply as FB. Facebook has an estimated 400 million users, and when it went public in 2005, default privacy settings kept personal information out of the hands of people who were not users, in other words known as “friends,” on the website.

Recently, the default settings have turned the other way, putting more users’ information out there for the whole world to see. From what I understand, there is a concern that personal information will land in the wrong hands. Contact and interest data on Facebook profiles is being shared with partner sites such as Pandora, Microsoft, and more. It was later announced that the website had a new feature to ramp up security. So if you want to protect yourself on Facebook click Privacy Settings and make sure you adjust your privacy settings next to all 12 categories on the page. So with all this in mind, everyone is trying to get famous these days, they turn to Facebook and YouTube to promote themselves, regardless of privacy issues.

Now, being famous has its advantages. Take the Jonas Brothers, the stars of Disney Channel’s “Jonas LA” premiering June 20; their fame has landed them in box seats watching their favorite team playing baseball. Joe Jonas, 20, the middle brother along with Kevin and Nick are huge Yankee fans. The other perks of being famous, the brothers have also gotten to meet presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Being famous also provides quality time with other famous artists, like spending time with Paul McCartney and U2’s Bono. On the “Regis and Kelly Show,” Joe Jonas mentioned he also loves to cook, and has even managed to swing a few cooking lessons from “Top Chef Masters” star and friend Tim Love.

The Jonas Brothers’ TV show, is undergoing a makeover, changing its name from “Jonas” to “Jonas LA” and just like in real life, the boys have moved from Bergen County in New Jersey to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams. It’s certainly not the only thing the Jonas Brothers have going on these days. They are kicking off a national tour in Dallas on July 27 with Demi Lovato.

Speaking of kicking, the first kick will take place on June 11 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The final whistle will be on July 11. The World Cup will head to South Africa and close to a billion people will be watching the so called “Beautiful Game.” Everyone knows it’s called football, but some still insist on calling it soccer. It is considered the most important sport in history.

Rose’s Scoop: Memorial Day is a day unlike any other. Since 1868, we have all come together in our communities to place flowers and flags on graves of our fallen heroes and come together in services to honor those who have paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom. Whether a war is popular or not, the sacrifice is the same for the more than one million men and women who died in service of this nation in wars and conflicts since 1775. Freedom is not free; it is only possible because our fallen heroes have paid such a high price. Let us not lose focus of what Memorial Day means. It is a day to remember.

Wishing everyone a safe Memorial Day Weekend!
