HOLLYWOOD—If this is the way Chad Duell goes out as Michael Corinthos on the ABC soap “General Hospital” then I’m all in. It sucks that it was teased a lot earlier than expected because if I hadn’t known, it would have been a twist or surprise in the soap opera arena that rarely happens. The last time “GH” did that was after that hospital explosion where it was revealed Robin Scorpio-Drake was very much alive and being held captive.
Sorry to digress. At the end of Monday’s episode, while Michael commiserated with Sonny about his marriage, Michael spotted something and next thing you know Sonny’s penthouse exploded. Yes, there was an explosion, Michael was engulfed, Sonny and Jason were in shock as they did all in their power to try to rescue Michael. Now do I think the writers will kill off Michael Corinthos? I would hope not considering Sonny and Carly already lost their son Morgan. That would just be a brutal punch for parents to suffer the loss of a second child.
It looks like Michael is about to face some serious burns, and as a result, he will be off screen for a while getting treatment until the show decides to recast the character or if Duell decides to return to the role. I do find it amazing the character is leaving in the midst of such heavy drama and I mean heavy drama. We had the affair between Willow and Drew exposed, then you had the bomb of Michael and Sasha sleeping together, and then we discovered Sasha is pregnant with Michael’s baby and only about a handful of people know that Sasha is pregnant, Maxie, Kristina and that’s it.
Sasha did spill to Michael that she was pregnant and that was something he didn’t expect. He was ready to step up, but Sasha wanted none of that. I think it is more so she is afraid of the blowback once it’s exposed will be too much for her because she will have to deal with Willow confronting her, not to mention Cody realizing the woman he pinned, is pregnant with another guy, not to mention they’re cousins. Sasha read every reason why she wants to raise the baby solo as she is concerned about being linked to the Quartermaine and Corinthos families. The Quartermaines are crazy, and Sonny’s mob life is a threat to everyone close to him. I did have to agree with Sasha on that point, but Michael’s current predicament is about to really change things and not in the best way.
Jason rescued Michael, but you’re now about to see Carly deal with another situation that is going to take her back to when Michael was in a coma for all those years after he was shot. Yeah, Michael has suffered a very tough life and it will be intriguing to see who is to blame for this. Yea, this was no accident, this was intentional and I’m trying to figure out who wanted to go after Sonny. Was it Ava, Ric, a mobster behind the scenes we don’t know, or perhaps Jenz Sidwell. Sidwell is indeed making himself at home after purchasing Wyndemere and cozying up to Lucy Coe of all people.
Sidwell is up to no good, he spied on Sasha while she at the church, but Robert and Holly are nowhere to be found, so exactly what is this villain planning to do in Port Charles. Is he looking to seek some revenge against Jason, Anna, Lucky and Dr. Gannon? If Sonny does have a new threat in play it could be fun to see what transpires, but this could push Sonny and Carly back together yet again because Carly is rightfully going to point the finger at Sonny for one of her children being injured or threatened.
I want to talk about Anna Devane for a minute because her granddaughter Emma has made her way back to Port Charles, but it’s not the Emma we were used to seeing. The character has been recast and she has a bit of an edge, a bad side to say the least, which totally goes against the sweet Emma the audience has always known. Looks like the writers are looking at a possible Gio and Emma pairing, but Gio might have to deal with some major fallout before that unfolds.
Why? It is looking more and more likely that Gio is Brook Lynn’s son from when she was pregnant as a teen, who is the father, might be Dante, and that is a intriguing factor let alone because I don’t know Chase is ready for this bombshell. Talking about Dante, he raced over to Prague to meet Lulu who was able to obtain Charlotte’s location. Valentin was NOT pleased, and when Dante showed up it only complicated matters.
Why? Someone tried to kill Valentin, and guess who was barking the orders, Jack Brennan of all people. So precisely what does Valentin know that Jack doesn’t want exposed? That is the thing that has me intrigued the most because Charlotte has pledged her loyalty to her father and wants to stay with him, despite Lulu desperately trying to bring her daughter back to Port Charles to ensure her safety.
The big question is how will Willow and Drew respond to the news about Michael, especially as a custody battle was brewing, and with Nina in the mix, things could get ugly yet again between Carly and her nemesis, but remember Nina still hasn’t spilled she slept with Drew. Lots of secrets are waiting to be unearthed people.
