WOODLAND HILLS — The person killed in a collision with a sheriff’s patrol car in Calabasas on Sunday, December 8 has been identified as Milton Olin, Jr. of Woodland Hills.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Olin, who was riding a bicycle, was traveling eastbound on the 22000 block of Mulholland Highway in Calabasas at the same time as a Sheriff’s patrol car around 1:05 p.m. Both the car and bicycled collided, which resulted in injuries to the deputy driving the patrol car and Olin, who died from his injuries. The deputy, whose name has not yet been released to the public, but he was treated for injuries resulting from glass and debris and later released.
Craig R. Harvey of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office verified the identity of the deceased bicyclist as Olin to Canyon News. He also stated the final cause of death, which was found to be multiple blunt force injuries. Olin’s death has been ruled an accident by the coroner’s office.
Captain Pat Davoren of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station gave his condolences to the family of Olin in a statement, but did warn that the investigation will take time.
“It is the goal of the investigation to determine the cause of the collision and if any laws, regulations or policies were violated by anyone involved,” Captain Davoren said. “Then, to take appropriate action if a violation of did occur.” The Sheriff’s Department has not revealed if they interviewed the deputy who drove the patrol car.
Milton Olin, Jr., 65, had practiced law since 1975, according to the website of the California State Bar. He co-founded Altschul & Olin LLP in 2004. Olin is best known for having been the Chief Operating Officer of Napster in 2000. Prior to that, he had worked at A&M Records for 14 years, where he eventually became Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs. Olin, who practiced Intellectual Law and Entertainment Law, among others, attended UC Santa Barbara and graduated from the School of Law at UCLA.
