SANTA MONICA—On May 4 the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation (SMMEF) announced that their fundraiser on April 26 managed to raise $125,000 in proceeds that will go toward the local schools. The Pier Party is the second annual event put on by the foundation to raise funds. It was held at Pacific Park.
The money raised is aimed to help with various programs for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. With games, rides, animals and a live DJ, the event attracted approximately 1,500 people. The animals were brought from the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, and police officers from the Santa Monica Police Department also made an appearance. Sponsors such as Treats Frozen Yogurt & Ice Bar were present.
Photographers Rebecca Coursey-Rugh and Mara Zaslove caught photos throughout the Pier Party, showing the family-oriented atmosphere that the foundation achieved.
