HOLLYWOOD—I’m still speechless to discover just the power of the Marvel flick “Guardians of the Galaxy” which has literally destroyed the box-office in the past two months. The comic book movie has already reigned supreme as the top grossing movie of 2014 so far with a gross just mere millions shy of the $300 million mark.

In one of the slowest weekends at the box-office, “Galaxy” maintained its dominance with a little over $10 million. The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” proved to be another surprise hit in theaters this summer. The reboot added another $6.5 million to its tally. By the end of the week the movie will have surpassed the $175 million mark.

Landing in the #3 spot is the teenage drama “If I Stay” with about $5.75 million. After about a month in theaters, the film is just a million shy of hitting $40 million.

Rounding out the top five is the comedy “Let’s Be Cops” with $5.4 million and the action-thriller “The November Man” $4.2 million.  Next weekend gets back into the swing of things as “Dolphin Tale 2” hits theaters and the thriller “No Good Deed” starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson arrives in theaters.
