WEST HOLLYWOOD—Markus Michael Albert Schaedler, of West Hollywood, was killed on Saturday, May 9 in a hang gliding accident in Sylmar.

After failing to meet them at a rendezvous point near their initial launch from Kagel Mountain, Schaedler, 59, was reported missing by his hang gliding mates at 6:20 p.m.

After the call for help was made, Schaedler and his wrecked glider were found in a ravine near Little Tujunga Canyon Road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters.

Though the depth of Schaedler’s hang gliding background is unknown, the hang gliding club of Kagel Mountain is home to one of the nation’s chief hang gliding clubs.
