SANTA MONICA —On Sunday, May 23, at the Edgemar Theatre, singer, songwriter and actress Harriet Schock entertained a crowd of guests who came to the venue this time to hear her sing, not to see her perform in Henry Jaglom’s “Just 45 Minutes From Broadway.” “Henry was so kind and offered me the space that we perform in on the weekend we were not doing the play. It meant so much to me. Henry is very generous to everyone and I appreciate so much his offer.” Schock’s concert was a real hit with everyone who attended. Her style is very comforting. Harriet sings like a nightingale, but she also tries to keep things light and the mood upbeat. That’s the way the singer lives her life as well.

Schock enjoyed doing what she does best, performing in front of a live audience. This is something many seem frightened to do, but not Harriet. “I knew that everyone who was attending my CD release party were there to support me and my band. And having the opportunity to perfom in the familiar surroundings of our set was so much fun,” said the singer.

The release of “Breakdown on Memory Lane” was a real hit. Harriet’s “45 Minutes” costar Julie Davis tells Canyon News, “Harriet Schock is an original. She is truly a poet. Accompanying her gorgeous heart-felt melodies are sumptuous lyrics that will make you laugh and cry in recognition.”

The background vocals were done by two ladies who have been a part of Schock’s career for a number of years as she’s been performing. Andrea Ross-Green and Pam MacLean are never far behind the singer. Schock is fiercely loyal and prides herself on keeping a close-knit team of musicians and singers around herself at all times including Joe Lamanno on bass, Kelly DeSarla on flute and Herbie Katz on Harmonica.

Harriet’s set started with “Sound Check Song,” “OK, You Win, I Give Up, You’re Right, I’m Gone,” “Over and Over and Over,” “Breakdown on Memory Lane,” “Dreaming of Casablanca,” “Starbucks,” “When You Were Mine,” “Bring Me Back,” “Search” and “Quiet Part of the Day,” which Steve Wagner went up on stage to play the guitar. Wagner and Schock co-wrote this song. Then the second part of the set included, “Don’t Say,” “Searching For You,” “It Tears at Me” and “Dancing with my Father,” which was written for Henry Jaglom’s “Irene in Time,” which stars Independent film icon Tanna Frederick. The set concluded with “I’d Forgotten,” “Lady Suite,” and “Worn around the Edges.”

Leslie Welles, a fan of Schock’s said of Harriet’s concert, “There is truly so much I could say about Harriet’s work. My most recent understanding is that her work illuminates the human condition, but with so much compassion that the view is always kind. The listener is allowed into deeply personal-universal places and leaves with greater understandings of him/her-self as well as Harriet, and the subjects she writes about. Harriet really loves people, and that’s very cool!”

Former “Sopranos” star David Proval, who costars with Schock in “45 Minutes From Broadway,” tells Canyon News, “In Yiddish theatre, which is referenced in the play we do together, audience members were told they could get their money back if they didn’t both laugh and cry at the performance. No one would have asked for their money back after Harriet’s CD release concert.”

Julie Davis, whose film “Finding Bliss” is being released in NYC and L.A. next week, concluded, “To top it off, she’s a brilliant comedian who introduces each of her songs with a hilarious, bracingly honest back story that gives the people in the dark a little insight on how great songs are created.”

Harriet Schock is a consummate performer. Whether she’s on stage acting or singing, there is one thing that can always be counted on by the entertainer. She’s always authentic and honest, but she offers everything with such a rich heart and spirit, that it’s no surprise she was cast by Henry Jaglom for “45 Minutes” and “Irene in Time.” Harriet is filled with life and her life is filled with beauty that emanates from within her soul, which is also where her music comes from.

This CD is a must have for music lovers. For those who were unlucky enough to miss Schock’s mesmerizing and brilliant performance two weeks ago, you can purchase “Breakdown on Memory Lane” available at HarrietSchock.com.
