WOODLAND HILLS—The Hebrew Discovery Center located on 19819 Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills was vandalized with white paint over the front entrance on Sunday, July 14.

The Los Angeles Police Department are searching for the suspects responsible for the vandalism where damages are estimated up to $10,000.

“This isn’t the first time the establishment has been vandalized,” said Founder and Director, said Rabbi Netanel Louie.

The synagogue was also vandalized in 2016 and in 2018, when an intruder walked into the synagogue and shouted “Kill Jews.”

“This is sickening. We’re checking with #LAPD now for case details. From tagging synagogues in the West Valley, to raising Turkish flags at Armenian schools, over the past few years we have seen a rise in anti-Semitism and hate crimes against many minority groups in the SFV,” said Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield.

Representative Brad Sherman issued the following statement in response to the vandalism:

“We have seen an increase around the country in anti-Semitic incidents, and those responsible should be brought to justice and be fully prosecuted. I am urging local law enforcement and the FBI to increase their efforts to combat the targeting of places of worship, schools, and community centers in the San Fernando Valley.”

The synagogue aims to educate and build a stronger jewish community by providing educational jewish programming for all ages from children to young adults. Donations are open to help repair the building (818) 705-3600 or via email hdc@hdconline.org.
