HOLLYWOOD—Henry Winkler served as special guest last week on “The Fix-Up Show” at the ACME Theatre in Los Angeles, following the previous week’s guest, Margaret Cho. Winkler tweeted soon after appearing on the show, “Wow, did I have a funny time and the couple who won seemed to be enjoying each other.”

The show hosted and created by J. Keith Van Straaten, along with co-hostess Patti Goettlicher, has proven to be as successful in Los Angeles as it had in New York City. “Perhaps it is the effect of the recent holiday [Valentines Day], but the response from personalities, participants and patrons alike is very exciting,” Van Straaten tells Canyon News. The show is now available to wider audience as it begins to stream LIVE on the web at 8:15 p.m. PST (11:15 p.m. EST), for the first time with the recent guest appearance of superstar Henry Winkler, who is best known as “The Fonz” from ABC’s ’70s hit series “Happy Days.”

It’s “I’ve Got A Secret” meets “Love Connection”- live on the Los Angeles stage. A dating show with heart. Spontaneity, hilarity and civility are guaranteed. Old or young, gay or straight, all are given a chance to find love on “The Fix-Up Show,” which follows a simple format. A panel of three people, two who know an eligible single well, and one celebrity who has never met the person, interrogates potential suitors to make a match. The matched pair wins a dinner at Amalfi Restaurant and goes on a real date! How did our panel do? Everyone finds out the next week and then another pair is matched.

Performances are scheduled on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at the ACME Comedy Theatre at 135 N. La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles, and tickets run $15 at door or $12 in advance by calling 646-450-4FIX [4349] or at thefixupshow.com, where live feeds are also available.

Other recent celebrity matchmaker appearances include: February 23 with “The Birds” star Tippi Hedren. Next week on March 2, the celebrity guest is Bruce Vilanch; on March 9, it will be Alan Thicke; and on March 16, it will be Scott Thompson, joining a long list of other respected industry personalities including Drew Carey, Walter Koenig, Susan Oleson, Eve Plumb, Will Wheaton, Dick Cavett, Alex Borstein and many more who have been lending their dating expertise to attempt to match up couples in this modern day match game.
