HOLLYWOOD—On the Hollywood front, Melissa McCarthy has overtaken Scarlett Johansson in Forbes’ annual rich list. McCarthy earned $33 million before taxes between June 2015 and June 2016, making her the world’s second highest paid actress, behind Jennifer Lawrence. Johansson, who placed second last year, dropped to third, earning $25 million across the year.

This year was real busy for Melissa McCarthy, which saw her appear in the all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, as well as “The Boss,” which topped the US box office. While, Scarlett Johansson appeared in “Captain America: Civil War,” the remake of “The Jungle Book” and the Coen brothers’ film “Hail Caesar!” over the last year. Forbes has reported Lawrence earning $46 million to make her the world’s highest-paid actress for the second year running. She appeared in the last film in “The Hunger Games,” franchise and the Oscar-nominated Joy during that time.

Actress Jennifer Aniston’s earnings of $21 million scored her fourth place, with Chinese actress Fan Bingbing was fifth with her annual takings of $17 million. Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, earned $10 million to take 10th place. According to Forbes, Padukone earns less than her Hollywood counterparts for her on-screen roles, but gets supplements with lucrative, multiple endorsements. In the completed top ten names also included Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, Julia Roberts and Mila Kunis.

In the recording industry, Taylor Swift tops the Forbes annual list of 100 highest-paid celebrities. With a fortune of $170 million, the singer-songwriter is ahead of Adele, who’s at number nine with $80.5 million, Madonna is in 12th spot with $76.5 million and Rihanna at number 13 with $75 million. Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour earned more than $200 million last year. The star’s ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris is in 21st spot with $63 million.

Other top 10 earners include the boy band One Direction at number two with $110 million, actor-comedian Kevin Hart at number six with $87.5 and US radio DJ Howard Stern at number seven with $85 million. Kim Kardashian is number 42 on the list with $51 million. Forbes says 40 percent of her pay this year came from her mobile game Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. The game’s maker, Glu Mobile, is scheduled to release an app starring Taylor Swift next year. Katy Perry is at number 63 with $41 million.

Live entertainment continues to be a major cash draw. We can’t wait to see what Axl Rose of Guns ‘N’ Rose’s will rake in. His reunion tour has been phenomenal, with everyone raving about the “Not In This Lifetime Tour,” which has fellow band members Slash, Duff McKagan, Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer and Melissa Reese. Everyone who didn’t attend any of their concerts, wish they had. Axl Rose sounds better now than when he did in the beginning. This historic tour has been massive even adding on South America in the fall and New Zealand and Japan in 2017.

Besides Hollywood and recording artists, we can’t forget about athletes who made the list, including Portuguese soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who raked in $88 million. Tennis player Roger Federer who made $68 million and British F1 drive Lewis Hamilton raking in $46 million.

Rose’s Scoop: Ariana Grande is the latest star to be taken to court. She’s accused of copyright infringement. According to published reports, she’s being accused of ripping off a track which was released two years ago. Songwriter Alex Greggs says her David Guetta tune “One Last Time,” has the same chorus as his EDM tune “Takes All Night,” which he wrote for Skye Stevens.
