MALIBU─The city of Malibu announced via its website that the new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) with a crosswalk has been installed and is open near the Pacific Coast Highway. The new crosswalk is located a quarter mile north of Rambla Vista and its goal is to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
The PHB will be utilized to assist pedestrians to safely cross without placing themselves in the harm of fast-moving traffic while waiting for a traffic signal or entering an intersection. Lights will be dark until they are activated by the pedestrian. Once activated by a pedestrian, the signal will flash yellow, letting motorists to known to slow down before a steady yellow and red light indicates a pedestrian will cross.
The crosswalk will then show a flash red once the pedestrian has finished crossing alerting drivers that they can proceed if the crosswalk is clear.
