WESTWOOD\u2014Hakop Jack Kaplanyan, a former UCLA water polo player accused of rape, pleaded no-contest on single counts of assault and making criminal threats.<\/p>\n

Kaplanyan, 20, was on trial for the assault of three different women, all UCLA students, between October 2012 and April 2013. Kaplanyan faced felony charges of rape, false imprisonment by violence, possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct and a misdemeanor count of sexual battery by restraint.<\/p>\n

The former UCLA water polo player reached a plea deal today.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 20-year-old reached a plea deal in which will serve 180 days in jail and five years of probation.<\/p>\n

The deal was reached after prosecutors couldn’t come up with any DNA evidence, witness, physical evidence, or corroborating testimony.<\/p>\n

The former UCLA athlete will also be required to attend one year of sexual assault counseling and 60-days of Caltrans service.<\/p>\n

Kaplanyan will have a strike on his record, but it\u00a0won’t be listed in the database of registered sex offenders. If convicted of all charges, Kaplanyan would have served as many as 37-years in prison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
