CALIFORNIA\u2014On September 4, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division reported that they are investigating a Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) that occurred in Rampart Division.<\/p>\n
The LAPD reported on September 4, at around 8:20 a.m., Rampart Area uniformed officers responded to an \u201cADW suspect there now\u201d radio call at a residence in the 300 block of South La Fayette Park Place. The suspect, later identified as Julian Douglas, 40, was at the front gate of the location waving a butcher knife.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, officers observed Douglas standing in the apartment courtyard armed with a knife and with blood on her hands. The officers ordered Douglas to drop the knife. She quickly entered a nearby apartment and barricaded herself inside a closet while armed. Officers continued to communicate with Douglas to drop the knife and surrender, but she failed to comply with their orders.<\/p>\n
Metropolitan Division, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), were requested and responded to the location. After several hours of attempting to gain compliance, CS chemical agents were deployed.<\/p>\n
Douglas emerged from her apartment, still armed with a knife, when officers deployed a TASER Shockwave and SAGE rounds toward Douglas. She was struck by two SAGE rounds and was taken into custody without further incident. Douglas was transported to a local hospital, where she was later admitted for injuries, she sustained during the Use of Force. No other community members or officers were injured as a result of this incident.<\/p>\n
