UNITED STATES\u2014I must confess! A couple of cat lovers expressed upset feelings with my decision to write about dogs <\/a>and not cats a couple of weeks ago.<\/p>\n

One of them asked me to write about why exactly<\/em><\/strong> WHITE CATS are special, instead of just \u201caverage normal cats.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alright.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

First of all I am surprised there is not as much information about them as there is about black cats<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All breeds can produce leucistic <\/a>(white) or melanistic<\/a> (black) kittens, depending on the pigmentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Everything seems pretty breed specific, and the only all white all the time<\/strong> cat I could find is the Van Cat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wikipedia says they are typically white and “ruddy<\/a>” and the website differentiates them as a \u201clandrace<\/a>\u201d feline not a \u201cformal breed\u201d meaning the cat is not bred and occurs naturally in a region called Lake Van, in Turkey.<\/p>\n

Most of the photos of them had the same characteristic 2 different eye colors. Heterochromia<\/a>, or as some term, an “odd-eyed cat<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Just like black cats, white cats have a foothold in different superstitions.<\/p>\n

In America <\/a>dreaming about a white cat brings good luck.<\/p>\n

In the United Kingdom, <\/a>white cats are sometimes considered unlucky because they are the same color as ghosts!<\/p>\n

Nordic <\/a>myths say FREYA’S<\/strong> chariot was pulled by white cats, while the Celtic <\/a>Ceridwen<\/strong> used them to carry out her magical desires.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A white, lazy, mischievous cat named DEVIL.<\/em><\/p>\n

A study at Berkeley <\/a>suggests that people believe that white cats are lazy. The funny thing is these people must not have had a good control group… THEY ARE ALL LAZY<\/em><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

King Osorkon of Egypt <\/a>loved his, and had white cats incorporated into his temple!<\/p>\n

In Japanese and Chinese cultures, there is a character called the MANEKI NEKO: a popular talisman cat comes in different color variations.<\/p>\n

If the GOOD LUCK cat is white, it’s said to mean<\/a>, \u201cHappiness, purity, and positive things to come<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The happy good luck talisman cat is speculated<\/a> to be what inspired the creation of Hello Kitty.<\/p>\n

I have a theory that white cats are revered by some people because of the basic primitive “white equals good and pure” concept that we also see behind wedding gowns<\/a> being the color that is also labeled as a LITURGICAL <\/a>color in Christianity.<\/p>\n

With very little research I have found many famous people have had white cats: Zsa Zsa Gabor<\/a>, Taylor Swift<\/a>, Elvis Presley<\/a>, Cameron Diaz<\/a>, Marlon Brando<\/a>, Marilyn Monroe<\/a>, and George Harrison<\/a>. I’m sure there are many more!<\/em><\/p>\n

ONE COULD speculate that perhaps the reasoning behind possessing a white cat, subconsciously or not, is because the pet owner hopes it will bring them one step closer to God, Heaven, or just plain old good luck?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
