WEST HOLLYWOOD\u2014\u201cReading and writing have the power to expand minds and transport people into realms previously unimagined,\u201d states a press release from the city Of West Hollywood announcing the WeHo Writing Craft Scholarship and the Little Free Library Steward program on April 8. The scholarship is available until Monday, April 18.<\/p>\n
PEN Center USA will award three WeHo Craft Writing Scholarships to resident writers of West Hollywood with the support of the city Of West Hollywood\u2019s WeHo Arts Grant. Those awarded a scholarship will receive an eight week master class in fiction and non-fiction, three one-day PEN Center USA Craft sessions, a one-on-one editing session with a professional editor, and participation in the final reading at Book Soup.<\/p>\n
Those who apply must meet the following\u00a0eligibility requirements:\u00a0be a\u00a0resident of West Hollywood, at least 21 years old, have access to reliable transportation, and fulfil all the scholarship components. The scholarship components include completing a short-answer section, providing proof of residence, and submitting a writing sample that is no more than five pages in length.<\/p>\n
PEN Center USA is a branch of PEN International who is one of the world\u2019s leading international literary and human rights organizations. The mission of Pen Center USA is \u201cto stimulate and maintain interest in the written word, to foster a vital literary culture, and to defend freedom of expression domestically and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n
The City\u2019s Little Free Library Steward program is a small-community run book exchange that helps foster a sense of community and a love of literacy, according to the WeHo Arts website. West Hollywood will provide up to eight stipends of $600 each to those who wish to install a Little Free Library on private property.<\/p>\n
