HOLLYWOOD—In Hollywood, a sequel is always a good way to generate big business at the box-office. “Insurgent,” the second chapter in the “Divergent” franchise rose to the top with moviegoers taking in a little over $54 million. The film which many expected to open much larger, was on course with its predecessor which generated similar numbers in 2014.

Last week’s champ, “Cinderella” fell more than 50 percent, but still brought in a hefty $34 million to land in second place. After just two weeks the Disney flick has already crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office.  Landing in the #3 spot was the Liam Neeson thriller “Run All Night” with around $5.1 million.  The only other new release for the week, “The Gunman” starring Sean Penn opened to disappointing numbers with around $5 million in box-office receipts.

Rounding out the top five was “Kingsman: The Secret Service with $4.6 million. Prepare yourself for laughs this weekend as Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell team up for “Get Hard.”
