SANTA MONICA—On Thursday, September 30, ESPN sports commentator Jay Mariotti entered a no contest plea to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence and was sentenced to community labor and counseling following an August 21 altercation with his girlfriend in a Santa Monica nightclub. He was arrested in his Venice apartment, and was released on $50,000 bail.

Deputy City Attorney Lee Caldwell successfully prosecuted the case in which Mariotti entered a no contest plea to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence. Commissioner John Green gave Mariotti 36 months probation and ordered him to perform 40 days of community labor, complete a domestic violence course running for 52 weeks, and ordered him to pay restitution to the victim as well as comply with a protective order.

The sports commentator has to return to court on November 19 to prove that he completed one day of community labor performed each week and that he enrolled in domestic violence counseling classes.
