HOLLYWOOD—With more than 8.4 million people tuning into the season three premiere of “ Jersey Shore” on Thursday, January 6, it’s official that MTV has a reality hit on its hands. With season two being such a guilty pleasure, viewers were intrigued to find out how things would shift with the cast returning to the Jersey Shore. I can assure you Miami was great, but the cast proved nothing beats the shore on their first day back in Seaside Heights. Of course, returning to the house is Mike “The Situation,” Pauly D, Sammi, Ronnie, Vinny, Jenni “J-Woww” and Nicole “Snooki.”  Angelina is out, and new roomie Deena is in courtesy of her best friend Snooki.

Upon first impression, Deena appeared to be Snooki’s sidekick, but she’s definitely a bit wilder. She’s not afraid to have a good time and with her new roommates I don’t think she’ll have any problems. Deena is responsible for creating a bit of drama on the first night with her antics, but for those viewers who tuned into season two, everything dates back to that infamous letter written in Miami. Snooki, J-Woww and Angelina all chose to write an anonymous letter to Sammi to inform her of the antics that her boyfriend Ronni was engaged in while he was dating her. Once Sammi learned the truth all hell broke loose. Her friendship with Snooki and J-Woww was indeed over as the girls got into an all-out brawl that will never be forgotten.

The tension slowly built throughout the episode as Sammi and Ronnie were the first to arrive at the house giving them first dibs on the bedrooms; they choose the room upstairs with three beds. J-Woww later arrived and her reaction upon going upstairs and seeing Sammi in the room was classic. She didn’t even use words to utter her thoughts. The rest of the roommates arrived one by one with “The Situation” being the last housemate to make it to the shore. He was also a bit surprised to learn that he would be rooming with both Sammi and Ronnie; not something he was looking forward to.

As a viewer, it’s not expected for major drama to occur on the first night, but when you get a group of personalities that don’t mesh in one house there’s no telling what could happen. Sammi seemed a bit out of her element; she’s no longer on communication terms with Snooki and J-Woww. Viewers were aware that trouble was brewing because of her nonchalant attitude towards Deena, who was just trying to be friendly by asking about her life. Sammi was rude in her demeanor. How do you expect to make friends with such behavior?

Of course there was alcohol inside the house and hot tub action, but Deena had a bit to drink and exposed a little too much to Mike on the first night. That led to an argument between Deena and Sammi. Snooki, in classic hilarity, stood by the steps eating potato chips. Before you know it, Ronnie, Deena, Sammi and Snooki were all yelling at one another. J-Woww eventually got into the mix and punches were thrown.

Viewers are likely predicting what will happen in the upcoming episode. Will J-Woww and Sammi be best friends?  Not likely if you ask me. By glimpsing at the upcoming season’s trailer, it seems that Sammi will redevelop her friendship with Snooki and Deena, alcohol will create mayhem on the beach, J-Woww will encounter a breakup and Sammi and Ronnie will argue (again).  That’s only the beginning. The roommates who have come to love one another will become a dysfunctional family where secrets are divulged, friendships will be tested and relationships will end. Things reach a climatic peak when Sammi punches Ronni and chaos ensues; looks as if another house guest will exit the shore.

The “ Jersey Shore” is the type of show that is sometimes so bad you constantly ask yourself why you’re watching, and then you realize it’s so entertaining that you can’t take your eyes off these unique people.  Audiences both love and hate the characters. We tune in to see what antics, fights, hook-ups or classic lines we’ll hear next week. If the first episode is an indicator of what’s to come, season three may be the best yet. “ JerseyShore” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on MTV.
