SHERMAN OAKS—Actor Jim Carrey has been served with a second lawsuit, this time from his late girlfriend Cathriona White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman. The lawsuit was filed on Monday, October 10. Sweetman is suing Carrey for playing a role in her daughter’s death. White was found unresponsive in her Sherman Oaks home on September 28, 2015, where traces of “propranolol, Ambien, oxycodone and oxymorphone [were found] in her system when she died,” according to People magazine.

Sweetman’s lawsuit accuses Carrey of providing drugs to an ‘unstable’ White. The lawsuit is similar in nature to that of White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, who claimed claiming that Carrey, “provided prescription drugs to White, knowing that she was prone to depression and had previously attempted to take her own life.”

According to reports, Carrey had been prescribed the drugs under the alias, Arthur King, and texted White asking if she knew of the whereabouts of his prescription drugs. Sweetman’s lawyer insinuates that this was an act of self-protection for Carrey against perceived involvement in White’s suicide.

The lawsuit claims that Carrey gave White 3 STDs and then lied about it. Court documents state that Carrey ended his relationship with White once she told him she had tested positive for multiple STDs. Both Carrey and his attorney, Marty Singer, have denied the accusations. “It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away,” Carrey said in a statement, “but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world,” indicated the Los Angeles Times.

Since the lawsuit, new details have emerged regarding the relationship between White and her mother. Singer recounted that prior to White’s death, her mother had sent a ‘destructive and demoralizing’ Facebook message that left White disabling her Facebook account to restrict further communication. In November, 2015, Sweetman admitted to having problems with her daughter, but was hurt at the thought of being blamed for her daughter’s unexpected suicide.

Carrey’s lawyer had these words to say in response to Sweetman’s recent lawsuit: “It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame. But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer’s attempt to capitalize on Cathriona’s suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona’s green-card ‘husband,”. Singer alleged to White and Burton’s “contentious relationship.”

Both Burton and Sweetman have requested for copies of the text messages that transpired between White and Carrey, a personal letter from Cathriona to Carrey, and an undisclosed amount of damages.
