SHERMAN OAKS—Cathriona White, 30, an Irish makeup artist and the on-and-off again girlfriend to 53-year old actor Jim Carrey, was found dead in her Sherman Oaks home on Monday, September 28 at around 8:40 p.m.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” said Carrey in a statement. He describes his former girlfriend as a “truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”
Cathriona’s body was discovered after authorities received a call to her home located on Briarwood Drive. She was pronounced dead on the scene according to reports.
Los Angeles County Coroner Ed Winter indicated that White’s death has been reported as possible suicide. A note and pills were found near her body according to reports. The final cause of death won’t be released until the coroner’s office get the results of the toxicology report, which can take weeks to be completed.
Carrey and White met on set in 2012 and began dating in 2013. The suicide has inspired White’s grief-stricken family to issue a statement to the Irish Independent describing their loved one as a “shining light who was loved deeply by her family.”
It is reported by that White left a suicide note, signing off on Twitter with a cryptic message that read, “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest.”
An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday, September 30 to determine the exact cause of White’s death. White’s family released the following statement on Tuesday:
“The family of Cathriona White sincerely regret the untimely passing of their beloved daughter and sister. Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family. We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss. There will be no further statements on behalf of the family.”
