HOLLYWOOD —After turn-away business during her last concert at The Flying Leap Café in Silver Lake, Judy Garland (as recreated by illusionist supreme Peter Mac) makes a triumphant return engagement to that venue on Monday, March 22.
For Judy Garland LIVE in Concert, the legendary star’s masterful musical director Bryan Miller will accompany Garland on the ivories while percussionist Michael James adds his special touch to the beautiful music the threesome creates together.
Joining this terrific trio on stage will be the classic crooner, David Johnson, who is making his second appearance in concert with Garland. “Tommy, it’s going to be a holiday show,” Johnson explained in an exclusive interview with Canyon News. “Sort of post-St. Patrick’s Day mixed with pre-Easter ”“ right in the middle of both holidays. Miss Garland will be singing Irish tunes from her hit movie, “Little Nellie Kelly” as well as great Irving Berlin songs from her classic musical, “Easter Parade.” In fact, I have the great pleasure of doing a duet with Miss Garland, “A Fella with an Umbrella,” which she did with Peter Lawford in “Easter Parade.”
Working with Peter Mac for the second time, Johnson could only rave about the amazing artistry of the illusionist. “When I am out there on stage with Miss Garland, I totally believe that is who I am working with. It’s all very much of the moment. Very exciting! I look into those big eyes of hers when we’re in the midst of ‘Fella with an Umbrella’ and I am singing with Judy Garland.”
“Another great thing about working with Miss Garland,” Johnson added, “is that she is the mistress of the ad lib or funny quip. She’s hilarious. When you’re out there with her, you never know what she’s going to say to you. It definitely keeps you on your toes. I love it!”
