HOLLYWOOD—Well, it was not a good weekend for new releases at the box-office. “Mother’s Day” and “Keanu” failed to dethrone reigning box-office champ “The Jungle Book.” For the third consecutive weekend, the live-action flick remained on the top spot adding another $42 million to its tally bringing its domestic total to over $252 million in just 3 weeks! Yeah, it’s safe to say “The Jungle Book” is a box-office hit.

Landing in second place was last week’s new release, “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” which fell more than 50 percent to bring in $9.4 million. While the flick is being considered a flop by many, it’s proved strong enough to hold off newcomers for the weekend. The raunchy comedy “Keanu” starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele landed in third place with $9.5 million. For a flick about a cat, and two guys behaving like individuals they clearly are not, it is impressive people.

Perhaps, the biggest surprise was the dismal debut of the dramedy “Mother’s Day” which only took in $8.3 million. I’m wondering if it was the scathing reviews from critics or the fact that this just isn’t a good movie that caused it to bomb epically in theaters. I mean Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston in the same movie; you’d expect moviegoers to turn out in hordes.

Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Barbershop: The Next Cut” which added another $6.1 million to its domestic total. I’m hoping “The Jungle Book” enjoyed its time on top, because next week “Captain America: Civil War” is certain to claim the top spot. Hmm, did you hear the buzz that the flick opened to gargantuan numbers overseas? To the tune of $200 million! It might not be “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but expect some impressive box-office receipts come next Sunday people!
