HUNTINGTON BEACH—On August 23, KODAWest will be holding their ninth annual “Day At the Beach” event.

KODAWest is a volunteer organization that is run by three women, who aim to “bring these KODA s (Kids Of Deaf Adults) together in a support/peer group type of environment, such as camps and cultural enrichment programs. With this unique fellowship, these children will gain confidence and wisdom which will help them develop a better understanding of, and ability to embrace their two worlds: the hearing and the deaf,” according to the KODAWest mission statement.

The statement continues to explain that KODAWest “also aims to provide resources and support workshops to deaf parents who face common issues while raising their KODAs.” KODAWest recently held their annual summer camp event on the island of Catalina. The camp lasted a week.

The beach day event is another event aimed to support and acknowledges KODAs and their families to show how special they are and to embrace their bi-cultural identity.

The “Day at the Beach” event starts at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. It will be located by Huntington Beach Tower 19.
