CALIFORNIA—On Thursday, January 23, the Los Angeles Police Department Detectives Juvenile Division, Abused Child Section, are seeking the public’s help in identifying additional sexual assault victims.

The LAPD reported that on November 30, 2024, a 15-year-old female victim waited at a bus stop. The suspect, later identified as Derrick Dwayne Thompson, pulled up in a black Suburban, equipped with a sign on the door depicting a childcare business.
The suspect informed the victim he worked for Child Services and offered the victim a ride home. Believing the suspect worked for Child Services, the victim entered the vehicle. The suspect drove to a parking lot, told the victim to get into the back seat, then removed the childcare business sign from the vehicle door. The suspect got into the back seat with the victim, removed her clothing, and sexually assaulted her.
On January 15, 2025, detectives arrested Derrick Dwayne Thompson, of Los Angeles, for 261(a)(2) PC – Forcible Rape (Booking No. 6952487), after receiving a crime report of Rape/Crime Against Child. The investigation was presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office who filed (1) count of 261(a)(2) PC-Forceable Rape, (1) count of 286(c)(2)(C) PC-Sodomy by Use of Force-Victim 14 or Older, and (1) count of 289(a)(1)(C) PC-Sexual Penetration by Use of Force of Minor Victim over 14 Years Old. Thompson is in custody with no bail. Detectives believe there are additional, unidentified victims.
