HOLLYWOOD—Most remakes and prequels rarely outdo the classic, but the 2011 thriller “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” was stellar in so many facets. One of those interesting factors was the use of CGI by actor Andy Serkis who made ape Caesar unforgettable.
The sequel to that picture “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is headed to theaters in 2014, minus James Franco. The first trailer for the upcoming movie was just released in the past week.
The trailer is quite bleak to say the least. It’s dark, moody and murky in my opinion. The planet looks like a complete war zone, the human race is in fear of something, Oldman is portraying the voice of reason to inspire hope and Caesar is in control. The final moments of the trailer slowly closing in on Caesar’s face can only indicate one thing: major trouble.
“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is slated to hit theaters July 11, 2014. Doing battle with the primates include actors Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Gary Oldman.
