HOLLYWOOD—For more than three weeks “The Lego Movie” dominated the box-office, but its reign is officially over, as the Liam Neeson action-thriller took the top spot taking in more than $30 million. The thriller also stars Oscar nominee Julianne Moore and newly crowned Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o. Failing into the second spot was the religious drama “Son of God,” which took in just over $26 million.
“The Lego Movie” claimed the #3 spot with a little over $21 million. The animated feature has already crossed the $200 million mark domestically. A sequel to the box-office hit is expected to hit theaters by 2017. George Clooney’s war comedy “The Monuments Men” continues to have an audience at the box-office taking in just under $5 million. The picture so far has grossed more than $60 million domestically.
This weekend sees the release of the sequel to “300,” “300: Rise of an Empire.” Be warned those expecting Gerard Butler to appear in the flick, he’s not in this movie.
