BEVERLY HILLS-The Beverly Hills Public Library’s Summer Reading Club is launching this week and will offer fun activities and books for all ages.

According to a press release from the City of Beverly Hills, this year’s theme is “Left’s Celebrate,” which will highlight the City of Beverly Hills 100th birthday with variety of programs and events from now to August 10.

“Summer is the perfect time to enjoy new books at home or on a vacation,” said Nancy Hunt-Coffey, Beverly Hills City Librarian. “We are excited to offer a variety of birthday-themed events to promote reading because we want to encourage people of all ages to explore fun summer adventures through books. Joining a summer reading club is a great way to meet new people, discover a new author, and prevent the loss of reading skills acquired by students over the school year.”

The 2014 Summer Reading Club will offer various programming for children, tweens, teens and adults that include free events, movie nights, book discussion parties. Programming schedules are available at www.beverlyhills.org/src2014.

Things will kick-off on Sunday, June 8 with the annual program with a party and musical performance by the BeatBuds at Roxbury Park from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free parking and shuttle service will be available from Beverly Hills High School.

Members of the community are invited to participate in Terrific Tuesday performances at the Civic Center Plaza starting on June 17 which will take place between 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The line-up includes juggler Fantastick Patrick on June 17; the Luce Puppet Company on June 24; Clint Perry and the Boo Hoo Crew musical group on July 15; and magician Amazing Dave on July 22. From July 7 through September 11, the Children’s Library will host weekly programs feature stories, music, and puppets for babies, toddlers, and preschool children.

Registration is not required for storytimes or Terrific Tuesdays, which are free and open to the public. The summer reading program is free for participants, registration is available online and in-person at the library. Once a participant has registered, they set a goal, log reading hours, and are eligible for prizes all summer long.

Any registered participant who reads 15 hours will receive a free book. Those who complete 30 hours or more will be entered in a drawing to win prizes.
