SANTA MONICA—Lightning struck along Venice Beach in Southern California at around 2:51 p.m. on July 27 resulting in one individual being killed and 13 others being injured.

Nick Fagnano, 20, was rushed to a hospital in Marina del Rey, where he died from his injuries he sustained. A lifeguard found him about an hour after he went missing.

The cause of his death is still being investigated. John Kades with the coroner’s office states the possibilities of his death being, “a lightning strike, drowning or being trampled by the crowd.”

The 13 victims who were struck and injured by the lightning were assisted by the help of the emergency responders. Seven adults and one teenager were transferred to a nearby hospital. One individual was listed in serious condition.
