WEST HOLLYWOOD—Two deputies from West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station reported to a 9-1-1 call on Sunday, October 3, at 1:47 in the morning in the area of Havenburst Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

The incident was a robbery at a West Hollywood liquor store on the 8200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. The two deputies pulled in and parked around the corner from the liquor store. The store’s manager, an African immigrant who had placed the 9-1-1 call, came outside the store and ran around the corner to meet them. The manager pointed with his keys to the direction where the suspects were fleeing. The deputy, a trainee deputy who came along with his training officer, thought the keys looked like a gun. After the manager failed to keep his hands in plain sight, one of the deputies fired eight shots in the direction of the manager; however, he was not wounded by any of the bullets.

The Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Bureau is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deputy-involved shooting.

The suspects were described as a black male adult, armed with a handgun, and a black female adult.  Both suspects were not arrested. The suspects were last seen fleeing southbound on Havenburst Drive.

Anyone with further information on the robbery or the suspects is encouraged to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at 310-855-8850.
