HOLLYWOOD—Another weekend at the movies, a new box-office champ has risen. Angelina Jolie ruled the box-office as her flick “Maleficent” scored a $70 million opening weekend; far exceeding the expectations of many box-office predictions.

Falling to the #2 spot was last week’s champ “X-Men: Days of Future Past” which earned $32 million, a huge plummet from the previous week, as the film dropped more than 60 percent. After 2 weeks in theaters, the comic book flick has already amounted $162 million domestically.

Performing under par was the Seth MacFarlane comedy “ A Million Ways to Die in the West” which only laughed up a disappointing $17.1 million. Many projected the movie to go toe to toe with “Maleficent.” Seems Disney had the edge in this match.

“Godzilla” roared itself into the #4 spot with a little over $12 million. After 3 weeks in theaters, the film is only about $25 million from reaching the $200 million mark at the box-office. Rounding out the box-office is the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore comedy “Blended” with $8.43 million.

This weekend will see the release of two very different pictures looking to fight for the top spot at the box-office: the drama “The Fault of Our Stars” starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort and the sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow” starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Any guesses as who will take the top spot at the box-office next week.
