MALIBU—Power lines and poles caught fire on January 10 disrupting electrical service for Southern California Edison residents in the Point Dume area of Malibu.

Power lines on the 27300 block of East Winding Way caught fire with the apparent cause being rain, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station.

Electricity was restored at around 3:00 p.m.

Southern California Edison officials stated that 2,233 residential and business establishments lost service at 1:09 p.m.

This is the third such incident in recent months. Nearly two weeks ago, powerful winds also caused electricity outages in the same area on December 31.

On October 22, 2014 the area Point Dume residents lost power when an underground transformer had caught fire, in what was described as an “explosion.”
