MALIBU—On Wednesday, April 29, the City of Malibu will officially open their first full bike lane at Zuma Beach.

The current bike route was shared traffic between vehicles and cyclists; it is indicated by signs, but no road striping. This six-foot wide lane improves a seven-mile bike route built on the eastbound side of the Pacific Coast Highway. Going directly from Zuma Beach to Leo Carillo State Beach, this new two-mile lane gives cyclists their own designated lane to freely enjoy the PCH view.

The lane was funded by Caltrans Highway Safety Improvement Program, the Los Angeles County Measure, Federal Transportation Equity Act and the City of Mailbu. The public ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 10 a.m. where city councilmembers, the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition, Caltrans and Metro officials will be in attendance.

The official opening of the bike lane comes right in time for May which is National Bike Month.
