WEST HOLLYWOOD-A man accused of killing his partner with a knife was booked for murder on March 30.

Andre Damiane Davids, 36, was booked for murder at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s West Hollywood station, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department. He is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correction Facility on a bail amount of $1 million.

Davids was arrested after sheriff’s deputies responded to a welfare check on March 29 at an apartment complex on the 900 block of Palms Avenue. As they arrived, they were informed by neighbors of a possible homicide that occurred at the location they were sent to investigate. Deputies forced their way into the apartment after receiving no response, and it was then that they found Kurtland Ma, 34, on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds.

They also found Davids hiding in the bathroom, who, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department, “appeared to have taken a large amount of pills.” The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital before being booked for murder. Ma, a resident of West Hollywood, was pronounced dead by responding paramedics. A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ma had graduated from Yale’s School of Medicine in 2008 before practicing in New York City.

The statement noted that Davids and Ma were not just roommates, but also a couple who were living together in the apartment. Ma’s Facebook page revealed that he declared himself in a relationship with Davids in September 2013.
