LOS ANGELES — A man arrested for a fatal stabbing was charged with murder on Tuesday, January 21.

Angelo Correa, 25, was charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for one count of murder. He is accused of killing Jose Velasco-Alvarado, 34. A press release from the District Attorney’s Office indicates that prosecutors asked for Correa’s bail to remain at $1 million.

The January 13 stabbing occurred at around 9:20 a.m. at the Red Line Vermont/Santa Monica station. The District Attorney’s bulletin notes that Correa and Velasco-Alvarado got into a verbal altercation as the train approached the station. Correa then walked away from Velasco-Alvarado, walked back towards him and stabbed him once before exiting the train and the station. The victim was taken to the LAC-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m.

An anonymous tip led investigators to Correa’s residence in Hawthorne, where he was arrested. The District Attorney’s Office noted that Correa allegedly killed Velasco-Alvarado using a folding knife.
