HOLLYWOOD—Early on Sunday, September 5, a man was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to run across the 101 Freeway.  Just after midnight, a 2000 Ford Explorer hit the pedestrian, a 31-year-old male from Newport Beach.

The SUV was heading north on the 101 by Barham Boulevard when the driver, a 33-year-old woman from Canoga Park, struck the man.  While police investigated, northbound lanes of the freeway were closed for almost an hour.

The victim was transported to a hospital. A California Highway Patrol representative stated that he sustained injuries to the skull and to his right leg, but he remains in stable condition.

The names of the victim and driver have yet to be released as police continue to investigate the incident and the possible motives of the man for running through traffic.
