UNIVERSAL CITY—Rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight, best known as a co-founder and former CEO of rap record label Death Row Records, was arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 5, as he left a restaurant at Universal City Walk.

Knight’s warrant was issued after he missed a November 23 court date. He was scheduled to appear in court to talk to a judge about a September 23 incident in Beverly Hills in which he is alleged to have driven through a stop sign, as well as driving with a suspended license. He was taken to West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, where he agreed with authorities to appear in court and answer to the charges within the next two months. He was then cited and released. Knight was not engaged in any altercation when he was arrested and cooperated with the authorities.

Knight oversaw the rise of the record company in the mid-1990s, when the record label featured rap legends such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur. Knight declared for bankruptcy in 2006. WIDEawake Entertainment Group, Inc., a Canadian company, bought the label in 2009 for $18,000,000.
