TIJUANA, MEXICO—The Mayor of Tijuana, Mexico, Juan Manuel Gastelum is blaming organizers of the migrant caravan for the Humanitarian Crisis and calling for their arrest.
Gastelum told Sean Hannity of Fox News on Friday, November 30 that he can no longer afford the cost of providing for the migrants saying:
“I am not going to break public services to solve this problem. In those 6 hours the border was closed, we lost about 129 million pesos. That’s not fair. How do you think the people from Tijuana feel towards those people making problems?”
Video depicts the squalor of the tent city at the sports complex that has been drenched from heavy rains. Buses arrived to transport migrants in need of dryer conditions, where the shelter is over 30 miles away from the border.
“Those are the real criminals because they’re dealing with the lives of people” Gastelum told Fox News. He argued that the Federal Police should arrest the unnamed organizers of the caravan for “putting people at risk.”
“Let’s take care of them in a legal way,” said Gastelum.
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador assumed the role as the new President of Mexico on Saturday, December 1.
“It is a problem he must solve as soon as he gets into office,” said Gastelum of President Obrador.
