CAMDEN, LONDON—Silver King, 51, whose real name is César Cuauhtémoc González Barròn, a former World Champion Wrestler (WCW) suffered cardiac arrest while competing at the Roundhouse “Lucha Libre” event on Saturday, May 11.

The wrestler was dressed in a mask as the character Ramses, when he fell down after a side kick from opponent, Eduardo Aníbal González Hernández, whose fight name is Juventud Guerrera, 44. The athlete did not recover from his injury recover after referees attempted to revive him. The fall looked to be part of the act while initial concerns were unnoticed.

Paramedics quickly arrived, clearing out the “Lucha Libre” event as they performed CPR, but Barròn was pronounced dead at the scene confirmed the UK’s Press Association.

Details of the fight and the passing of Silver King, is still under investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police, who labeled the incident as “non-suspicious.”

“Last night “Silver King” sadly lost his life during an event, our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and all of the Lucha Libre team,” said a spokesperson for the Roundhouse Lucha Libre organization in a statement.

Fans and performers expressed their condolences via social media.

WCW president Eric Bischoff stated, “Like so many of the great Luchadores that helped Americans appreciate Lucha Libre and made it the success it was, he will be missed.”

Silver King played ongoing roles of Ramses in the 2005 Comedy “Lucha Libre.” He achieved substaintial success as a WCW wrestler with regular appearances on the TV show WCW Nitro.
