MELROSE—On Sunday, November 15, Youth Mentoring and 102.7 KISS FM will be joining forces to welcome participants to the 2nd Annual Miles of Music 5K fundraiser that supports at-risk youth in Los Angeles.

Youth Mentoring’s mission, according to their website, is to “awaken at-risk youth to their power, unique gifts and purpose by matching them with caring adult mentors and placing that match within a structured dynamic that provides the resources youth need to reach productive, conscious adulthood.”

Youth mentoring, which specifically helps Los Angeles youth who are coming from neighborhoods struggling to overcome broken homes and schools, has been able to reach a 96 percent success rate of youth mentoring program participants graduating from high school, according to the Road Race Runner website.

Serving 450 youth in Los Angeles each year, Youth Mentoring has a vision of a community where “young people are truly seen and not just watched, where society understands and accepts its responsibility in meeting the needs of all young people, and where young people bring their gifts back into their communities as productive members of society,” according to the

The 5K run will officially start at 8 a.m. at Paramount Picture Studios located on 5555 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90038 and will provide a yoga/stretch class by Muscle Mechanics at 7 a.m. Participants will be running to music played by KISS FM.

Following the run, there will be a DJ set, food trucks and live music performances. Some of the musical artists set to perform include, Alex Angelo, Stalking Gia, Wild Style, Daya and Los 5, who performed at the 2014 benefit run.

Last year’s event raised over $100,000 which was used to provide mentorship for 50 additional high school students. The money raised also helps provide transportation, field trips, monthly planned outings, and team activities.

The goal of this year’s Miles of Music 5K is to reach $200,000 in order to further impact a greater scope of young lives within the Los Angeles community.
