SANTA MONICA—A Santa Monica art student reported missing over the weekend was found safe on May 22.
The 21-year-old female, identified as Alexis Groomes, was last seen in Carson on Sunday, May 17.
Groomes disappeared after leaving her cousin’s home in Gardena between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Her cellphone and bag were found at Vernon Hemingway Memorial Park located in the 700 block of East Gardena Boulevard in Carson by a man who turned in the belongings to authorities.
Groomes is a student at The Art Institute of California – Los Angeles. She missed classes over the week due to her absence. Friends of Groomes took to social media to ask for help to locate her after she went missing.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the case.
