SANTA MONICA-”A man suspected of child molestation was arrested in Florida by Santa Monica Police detectives on March 12.

Christopher Carrington Camp, 72, was arrested in Orlando by local law enforcement officials, according to Erika Aklufi of the Santa Monica Police Department. Camp, a resident of Santa Monica, had been on the run from police since July 2008 for an alleged sexual assault of a minor which occurred between August 2006 and June 2008. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshal’s Office and local law enforcement officials in Florida, detectives from the department’s Juvenile and Missing Persons Unit were able to bring Camp back to California on March 14.

Officer Aklufi told Canyon News that the District Attorney’s Office has refrained from discussing any details about the case until further notice. Camp is currently being held in a Santa Monica jail on multiple counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14. His bail is set at $1 million. Camp was arraigned in court on March 17, and he is due back for a preliminary hearing on April 2.
