SANTA MONICA—A collision between a Jeep and a motorcycle on Monday, July 2, sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with serious injuries and shut down Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica for four hours.

According to reports, the crash occurred after 5 p.m. closing traffic in both directions of during the rush hour commute.

The Santa Monica Police Department took to Twitter at 5:37 p.m. to update drivers on the accident writing:

“Due to a traffic collision, please avoid the @santamonicacity 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway. Long delays expected. More information to follow.”

Vehicles headed north on PCH were redirected from the westbound Santa Monica freeway to Fourth Street and vehicles headed south were redirected at the California Incline, Santa Monica Police tweeted.

The SMPD tweeted at 9:36 p.m. that all lanes of traffic were re-opened to motorists.
