BEVERLY HILLS—The City of Beverly Hills will be holding its annual National Night Out celebration to focus on emergency preparedness, health and safety. The event will include exhibits, displays and family fun.

Canyon News spoke to Therese Kosterman, Public Information Manager for the City of Beverly Hills via email about the event. She indicated that more than 1,000 people attended the event last year, and about the same number is expected for this year’s event.

When asked why the National Night Out event is such an important issue for so many cities across the country, Kosterman said, “It is a friendly way for a community to come together and talk about safety and security.”

The celebration will occur on Tuesday, August 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Rexford Drive at the front of City Hall.

Activities at this year’s event include:

Police Department SWAT and K-9 displays

Fire Department display

Campfire songs and storytelling with Library and Community Services staff

Crime prevention information

CPR display from Beverly Hills CPR

Cedars Sinai health screening

Disaster, health and safety information

Safe-T-Proof quake cottage

Food trucks and more!

 

Parking will be available at the Rexford parking structure and the Crescent Drive parking structure.

 

“We would like residents to be more aware of how they can be involved with crime prevention, increasing their health and safety and emergency preparedness,” said Kosterman.

 

For additional details contact bhpdinfo@beverlyhills.org.  The National Night Out celebration started back in 1984 in an attempt to promote neighborhood unity, police-community partnerships and taking action to prevent crimes. The celebration takes place each year, on the first Tuesday in August.
