UNITED STATES—It was a big weekend of football with some games that broke hearts and others that were a bit gripping. Let’s talk about those Kansas City Chiefs because it feels like for the past four years they have played in the AFC Championship Game. Has it gotten a bit boring? Yes, for me as a fan of the NFL I don’t want to see the same team every single year. However, the KC Chiefs did what they needed to do to get back to the big game that will ultimately take them or not take them to the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year.
In order to do that they had to take business against the Houston Texans who they defeated with a score of 24-13. However, I am eager with the opponent they will battle next because it’s a rematch and I am hopeful this time around that the Buffalo Bills, who is the one team I root for besides the Detroit Lions, takes them out. We’ll talk more about the Bills and Baltimore Ravens game that was in my opinion one of the best games to watch, next to the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles.
I’m sorry, but I don’t even want to drum up conversations about the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders game. It just felt like the Lions weren’t ready to play the Commanders and it showed with the countless mistakes. They loss 45-31 and it was brutal. They lost on their home turf having not only a BYE week but winning the NFC Division in the process.
All it takes is one bad game and it’s over people, which the Lions felt, and now the Commanders get to go to the NFC Championship game where they might be playing a formidable foe in the Philadelphia Eagles, who will host the team. Can the Commanders go on the road and deliver another defeat? If so, that will be three games on the road that the team was victorious and if they do that it makes them very dangerous.
With that said, the Rams and Eagles came was a nail-biter. I mean those final minutes I truly thought the Rams were about to come back and defeat the Eagles. Matthew Stafford who used to be a Detroit Lion is a resilient quarterback and he is very underestimated at times, and he was getting his team where they needed to be to make a potential touchdown, but some gritty defense from the Eagles halted that. In the end, it was the Eagles on top 28-22.
However, the game that I was watching was the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills. It looked like the Bills were about to have a cakewalk to the AFC Championship Game because the Ravens struggled in the first half of the game, but come the second half Quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Ravens came roaring back to the tune that in the final minutes of the fourth quarter we had a score of 25-27 with the Bills leading by 2.
A tricky play was devised by the Ravens hoping to allow them to recover the ball and score a potential field goal or touchdown to win the game. However, the Bills recovered the ball and that final minute of the game sealed the Ravens fate. Yes. The Ravens have fallen to the Bills yet again. So perhaps in 2026 will be the year that changes. So next week the stage is set for the NFC and AFC Championship games. For the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles will battle the Washington Commanders. That game will be interesting, but I’m more excited for the AFC Championship game where the long awaited duel between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills takes place on KC’s home turf.
I so want the Bills to beat the hell out of the Chiefs because I don’t think I can take seeing the Chiefs in the Super Bowl for another year. It will just devastate me as a football fan. I think it’s obvious I want to see the Bills in the Super Bowl, but the other team, I really don’t care too much, it can be either the Commanders or the Eagles, but I am leaning towards the Eagles because I think they are the better team and I think it would make for an interesting matchup, Bills vs. Eagles with the KC Chiefs being forced to watch at home. Wouldn’t that be exciting?
