BEVERLY HILLS—Former Office Manager of the Beverly Hills Medical Suites, Claudia Ventura, 40, was sentenced on July 11 to serve 180 days in jail, 5 years probation and 200 hours of community service. Canyon News reached out to Los Angeles County District Attorney spokesperson Shiara Dávila Morales who provided additional details about the sentencing.

The case initially began back in May 2012, when Tom K. Kalili, 59, was arrested after a joint investigation conducted by the California Department of Insurance, the California Dental Board, and the California Franchise Tax Board that took several years to complete. Insurance carriers lost $439,000, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

On April 10, Kalili plead no contest to one felony count of insurance fraud and one felony count of failure to file income tax returns. “Kalili also admitted excessive taking allegations of more than $150, 000.” On April 29, the defendant was ordered to pay more than $780,000 for insurance fraud and was given the sentence of spending one year in a county prison.

Ventura worked alongside Tom Kalili at Beverly Hills Medical Suites and was sentenced on April 10 to two counts of insurance fraud. Judge David M. Horwitz officially placed Ventura’s sentence upon her on July 11.

Ventura aided Kalili in taking $440,000 from multiple insurance carriers. Ventura also pled no contest during the April 10 trial. She admitted to excessive taking allegations of more than $150,000.

Deputy District Attorney Grace Pak of the Healthcare Fraud Division prosecuted the case. Pak informed the court of Kalili’s no contest plea back in April.

Tom Kalili owned and operated the Beverly Hills Medical Suites. The insurance companies that will be receiving restitution include Anthem Blue Cross, United Healthcare and the State of California Franchise Board.
