HOLLYWOOD HILLS—An officer-involved shooting occurred on Melrose Avenue & North Wilton Place on Sunday, May 31 at approximately 9:25 p.m.
The shooting occurred after Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to an assault call and encountered a female stabbing another female. The suspect, who was shot by police, was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries and has been labeled as being in stable condition. The stabbing victim succumbed to her injuries and died. The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced her dead at the scene. The name of the suspect and victim have not yet been disclosed to the public.
No officers were injured during the incident. The LAPD has yet to conclude a motive for the stabbing and plan to interview the suspect as soon as possible. The officer-involved shooting and stabbing is not believed to be related to the ongoing protests occurring across the country in response to the death of George Floyd, 46, who died in Minneapolis on May 25.
