BEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywoodland as the year ends I do an annual reigning men column, but this week after a foot of rain fell in L.A., maybe it should be called raining men? This is the week that we honor the men of Hollywood who have made such an indelible mark in the industry for various reasons and those did their part to improve the industry in their own unique way.

Before we pay homage to the best of the men of entertainment, here’s a quick news wrap up. “Friends” star David Schwimmer will become a dad next year. Wife Zoe Buckman and David announced on Wednesday that they are expecting a child in the spring and couldn’t be happier. Bret Michaels made it official and is now engaged to longtime girlfriend Kristi Gibson. Also, Ryan Reynolds and his wife Scarlet Johansson who recently separated have been spending time together for the holidays.

The men who were outstanding this year are far too many to mention. However, as we draw nearer to the end of another milestone, it’s always important to let you know who many of these stars and behind the scenes players are that keep Hollywood and entertainment strong, exciting and entertaining. Bill Bell, Jr. who lives in Bel Air runs Bell Phillip Television Productions. He’s the most unknown Bell, but his work keeps all of us in the industry working and in your living rooms on a daily basis. Billy is the Louis B. Mayer of the TV industry. Holmby Hills icon Bradley P. Bell, the executive producer and head writer of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Bradley’s incredible work was honored last summer at the Daytime Emmys, when his show took home the Dramatic Series Emmy® for the second year in a row.

Stephen Moyer, who portrays vampire Bill Compton on HBO’s “True Blood” is in many ways outstanding. Moyer has so many fans all over the world now that he’s become one of television’s leading men. This year Stephen married his longtime fiancé and “True Blood” costar Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse on the series. After their Malibu nuptials they jumped into the Pacific Ocean. Also, George Clooney continued his directorial work and Martin Scorsese brought one of TV’s most powerful period dramas “Boardwalk Empire” into our homes.

Mark Teschner, the three-time Emmy winning Casting Director for ABC’s “General Hospital” continued bringing us lots of new stars that eclipse many of their peers in the industry. Mark’s greatest production however is being happily married to his beautiful wife Lisa and raising their little princess Amelia. TV Guide’s most distinguished columnist Michael Logan, who is the gold standard for journalism in the entertainment world continues helping his beautiful wife Pat Butler with her charity Sojourn, which benefits women and children who are escaping domestic violence. Michael is one of the most creative men on the planet, and he continues to make us try to live up to his professional and personal accomplishments.

From Don Diamont, Joshua Morrow, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, to Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Alexander Skarsgard, other outstanding men in the industry include actor and filmmaker Douglas Tait, budding filmmaker Anthony Thurston, Director Christopher Cashman, iconic manager Budd Moss, legendary director Henry Jaglom, film editor Ron Vignone, producer extraordinaire Scott Martin and author, actor and activist Thom Bierdz. I must make a special mention to producer, writer and director Christopher Goutman, who cast me in a role on the soap “As The World Turns.” The entertainment industry is so much better off with all of these great men of Hollywood who are outstanding simply because it’s in their DNA to be the best.

A special holiday greeting to my friends in the band ACIDIC. The Brentwood based modern rock band will visit troops in Germany and Kosovo this December and January as part of an Armed Forces Entertainment tour. The band will perform for troops in several undisclosed locations, sign autographs, pose for photos and extend their gratitude to America’s troops.

“We were so happy to get this chance to entertain our troops because they are the people who exhibit the most intense tenacity and courage in the face of danger on America’s behalf. They deserve nothing but the most sincere and memorable performance and we’re certainly going to offer ours! We’re going to do everything we can to give them an awesome New Year’s celebration. Our appreciation of our troops knows no bounds, and this is one way we can say a special thank you,” said Michael Gossard. Michael Thompson added, “It’s an honor to provide entertainment for the people who provide us protection. We’re hoping to provide some happiness and bring a little bit of our USA rock’n’roll until they can get back home.”
