CALIFORNIA—On Monday, December 16, updated news reports indicate that former Speaker Pelosi was airlifted from the hospital in Luxembourg to Germany where she underwent hip replacement surgery.  Last reports indicate that Pelosi, 84, is still in the hospital recovering from surgery in Germany.

Ian Krager, spokesperson for Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, issued the following statement that may be found on Rep. Pelosi’s webpage under Press Releases.

“Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend.  Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S., military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl Army Base and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness.

Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans.”

On Friday, December 13, former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi,  was hospitalized after taking a hard fall down a marble staircase at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg. The New York Times first reported that the long-term congresswoman fractured her hip after tripping and falling on the stairs.

Reports indicate that Pelosi had traveled abroad with a bipartisan congressional delegation for the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Ian Krager, spokesperson for Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, issued this statement:

“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history. Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi was personally and officially honored to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II — including her uncle, Johnny. She looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.”
