SANTA MONICA—The Fairview Branch Library is inviting the public to attend the Plant Swap and Seed Library Kickoff event. The event, which is open to the public, will be held on Saturday, April 7 starting at 11 a.m. at the Fairview Branch located at 2101 Ocean Park Blvd.

Participants will be able to join other gardeners to share seeds, cuttings and transplants. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own plants and seeds to swap with others. The aim of the Seed Library is to urge the Santa Monica community to interact with one another in the healthy act of gardening and through the sharing of seeds and knowledge.

According to the city of Santa Monica website, growing plants from local seeds strengthens biodiversity through the nurturing and preservation of locally-adapted seeds and builds on the city of Santa Monica’s commitment to sustainability. The Seed Library is free and open to all. Seed borrowers are not expected to return the exact seeds they borrow; they are asked when their plants have grown, to let several of them go to seed, collect a portion of those seeds and contribute them, and other seeds collected and bring back to the Seed Library for others to use.

Seating is limited and on a first arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible. For disability-related accommodations, call Library Administration at (310) 458-8606 at least one week prior to event. The Fairview Branch Library is served by Big Blue Bus routes 8, 16 and 44. Ride your bike. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library.
