SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate the suspect involved in a sexual assault in the area. The incident occurred on January 13 at approximately 6:15 p.m., when the victim was walking southbound near the waterline on the 1600 block of the beach. She spotted a male subject walking northbound towards her.

The victim indicated to police that as the suspect walked past her he whispered something in Spanish. She informed the male subject that she wanted to be left alone as she continued walking. According to a press release from the SMPD, the suspect turned around, grabbed the victim from behind and threw her to the ground.

He held the victim down as he physically and sexually assaulted her. Police indicate the suspect then fled northbound along the beach’s waterline and out of sight.

The suspect is described as a light skinned male Hispanic or White, in his 30s; he stands between 5 feet and 6 inches to 5 feet and 8 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. The suspect was wearing dark colored pants, and a black hooded sweat shirt with the hood pulled over his head.

Canyon News spoke to Sgt. Camarena from the SMPD who indicated there are no new updates to the case.
